Launch

Launch Report for Saturday, September 8th, 2001
(Salvo 4)

Flight 596, 115th flight this year
Keith Bedard's scratch built Super Nova on a Centuri C5-3S for its 4th flight

My own Super Nova was up next on a 1980 vintage Centuri C5-3S for my first flight of the day after misfiring on the previous salvo.  The bottom part of this rocket was the only piece that I was able to recover from a separation that occurred on my Estes Super Nova Payloader in December of 2000.  My rocket weathercocked and the chute got tangled and so it didn't drift very far.  It was still a bit hard to find though since it landed in the bean field to the left of the launch area.

Isabel Deslauriers' Estes R2-D2 on an Estes C6-3

Isabel's R2-D2 rocket was up next on a C6-3.  The chute on this one had deployment problems and it landed in the bean field as well.

Estes Saturn V on an Estes D12-3

A primed but unpainted Saturn V was up next on a D12-3.  On a D, these big Saturn's don't get much altitude and this was the case with this rocket.  Neither of the chutes deployed and the two halves of the rocket plopped to the ground close to the launch area.

Aerotech Initiator on an Aerotech E15-4W

An Aerotech Initiator went up next on an E15-4W for a great flight and a landing just behind the launch area.

Anthony Brohan's Estes Quark on an Estes A10-3T

Anthony's Estes Quark took off on an A10-3T never to be seen again...
