Launch Report for Sunday, October 1st, 2000
(Page 1 of 2)

Today was a great day for flying with a light breeze coming in out of the south with a temperature of about 18 degrees Celsius (65 degrees F).

With my NCR Command Control launch controller temporarily out of order because of a need for new micro clips, I used my trusty old Quest Launch Controller which has started the motors of more than 200 flights.  I also brought my third Estes Porta Pad and my camcorder to record every flight and to produce all the images in this launch report.

Flight 459, 110th flight this year
Scratch built Osiris on an Estes D11-P for its 1st flight

Time at Liftoff: 17:23:03
Flight Duration in Seconds: 7
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 22 west
The first flight of the day was my recently built pyramid Osiris and it was a picture perfect flight.  As can be seen in the last photo, Osiris has no parachute or streamer simply because it has so much drag by itself... In fact, it never flew higher than about 200 feet.

Flight 460, 111th flight this year
Scratch built Osiris on an Estes D12-3 for its 2nd flight

Time at Liftoff: 17:29:31
Flight Duration in Seconds: 7
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 25 west
Osiris was designed to use both plugged and standard motors and this flight was to test Osiris' ability to vent the ejection charge.  The flight was basically identical to the first one except that it sustained a damaged nose on landing and there was some smoke emerging from the aft vents that was caused by the D12-3's ejection charge.

Flight 461, 112th flight this year
Quest Big Rage on an Estes C5-3 for its 4th flight

Time at Liftoff: 17:37:05
Flight Duration in Seconds: 32
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 181 north
My Big Rage turned in a great flight and recovery although it did take some burn damage to the chute.

Flight 462, 113th flight this year
Estes Prowler on an Estes C5-3 for its 2nd flight

Time at Liftoff: 17:46:02
Flight Duration in Seconds: 26
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 91 north
Prowler made its first flight with its new paint job and I changed the 24" chute that it came with for a 12".  A fin cracked on landing indicating that maybe I should have used an 18" chute.

Flight 463, 114th flight this year
Estes Airwalker 01 on an Estes B6-4 for its 7th flight

Time at Liftoff: 17:52:25
Flight Duration in Seconds: 23
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 96 north
It's been a few months since this rocket went up and it turned in a great flight on a B6-4 that I bought from the A3MAQ club president a few weeks ago.

Flight 464, 115th flight this year
Estes Thunderhawk on an Estes B4-4 for its 12th flight

Time at Liftoff: 17:59:02
Flight Duration in Seconds: 39
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 179 north
One of my favorite rockets to fly, Thunderhawk turned in a great flight as usual.  There was a small "Estes dent" at the top of the body tube since this was one of my first BAR rockets and I built it with the original shock cord that came with the kit which was too short.

Flight 465 116th flight this year
Custom Serval on an Estes B6-4 for its 9th flight

Time at Liftoff: 18:07:15
Flight Duration in Seconds: 16
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 93 north
Another one of my favorites, Serval is seeing flight time almost every time I fly.

Flight 466 117th flight this year
Custom Serval on an Estes C6-5 for its 10th flight

Time at Liftoff: 18:13:24
Flight Duration in Seconds: 29
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 113 north
Serval landed close enough to the pad on the previous flight that I decided to put a "C" in it.  Perfect flight with no damage.

Flight 467 118th flight this year
Estes Ninja 01 on an Estes 1/2A3-2T for its 9th flight

Time at Liftoff: 18:20:16
Flight Duration in Seconds: 9
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 54 west
Ninja flew a little erratically and I'm almost sure that it's a thrust vectoring problem caused by the motor retaining hook getting in the way of the nozzle.

Flight 468 119th flight this year
Estes Alpha III 02 on an Estes A8-3 for its 11th flight

Time at Liftoff: 18:26:34
Flight Duration in Seconds: 20
Distance from Launch Pad in Feet: 172 north
My second Alpha III flew on another motor that I bought from our club president for a perfect flight and recovery.
