Estes Der Big Red Max on an Estes C6-3 for its 7th flight

Time at Liftoff: 07:42:00

This 1970's vintage Der Big Red Max made its 7th flight and it was nearly its last as it started to drift out of the recovery area.  When it finally did land, it touched down in a row of hedges just over the fence bordering someone's backyard and the Howard S. Billings schoolyard.  The rocket sat in the hedges while the parachute hung over the side of the fence and into the recovery area.

This 1970's vintage Nike-X is my first of two that I managed to get my hands on.  When I received this rocket in the mail after buying it from someone who posted it on Ebay, it was in terrible shape and over the last nearly two years< I restored it to flyable condition and today, it made its first flight as a part of my fleet.  The flight was perfect although it came quite close to landing in a tree.  Being rather proud of this rocket, it was appropriate for my 500th flight.

Mt first day of flying in 2001 was a good day although there was some damage as well as nearly losing a $30 rocket, but the lost rocket was found and the damage can be repaired.  A good day!
