Fusée-Fête 2007

... est maintenant terminé -- ce fut un weekend mémorable avec une panoplie de lanceurs, plusieurs venant de l'ontario.

Avant de parler du lancement comme tel, je tiens à remercier les personnes suivantes qui ont fait en sorte que Fusée-Fête soit un succès:

Dominique Martel qui à joué tous les rôles [RSO/RI/OQT],
Pierre Laurendeau qui s'est occupé de logistique,
Jean Désilets et Danièle qui se sont occupé de la circulation,
Jacques Breton qui fut RI presque tout le weekend,
Martin Garand le "Pad Manager" / aRCA qui travailla presque tout le temps aux rampes,
Frantz Robinson qui à été là au montage et démontage du site, et a fait office de RI,
Bob Pouliot qui fut aussi "Pad Manager" pendant plusieurs quarts de travail et notre "motor pusher" officiel,
John Sullivan, Roland Zacher, Bill Wagstaff, Glenn Mitchell qui prirent tous un quart ou deux de "Pad Manager",
Jean-Simon Bourgault qui a fait un coucou avec Alexis, son fière petit assistant,
et Lyne, la conjointe de Sylvain Gagnon qui a fait du aRCA dimanche pour nous aider.

Merci à tous les volontaires qui ont donné de leur temps pour nous aider à faire en sorte que Fusée-Fête réussisse!

Ceci dit ...

Samedi le 23 Juin:

Samedi fut une journée maussade avec des vents qui variaient de 5 à 25 km/h continuellement. Le temps était nuageux et frais. Les gens se montraient un peux rétissants pour lancer mais éventuellement ils se sont dégourdis. Le premier lancement à eu lieu vers 13h00 avec moi qui à lancé le bal en faisant décoller ma nouvelle LOC EZI-65 sur un H153 (Pro38). Les vents ont diminués au milieu de l'après midi mais ils y avait quand même des bourrasques fréquente. Les vols se sont enchaînés régulièrement jusqu'en fin de journée. Le champ fut fermé à 19h06. Due a la couverture nuageux, le plafond d'altitude demeura à 2500 pieds toute la journée.

Faits saillants: Nous avions un important contingent d'ontariens, aux moins 7 lanceurs et supporteurs sont venus nous visiter. Nous avons eu un nombre total de 17 lanceurs ce weekend ce qui fait ce Fusée-Fête plus important qu'un grand nombre de nos lancements des cinq dernières années.

Gros commentaire: Certaines personnes disent qu'on se concentre beaucoup sur la haute puissance, mais on peut voir que les lancement de petite et de moyenne puissance (A-G) constituent la majorité de nos lancements!

Plus gros lancements: Le K530 de Jean-François Brousseau.

Lanceur le plus prolifique: Sylvain Gagnon avec 6 lancements, il était en manque de perchlorate je crois. Il m'a indiqué qu'il revenait a la fusée de façon régulière. Yay!

Lancement le plus inusité: Le planeur de Roland Zacher à fait un excellent vol et un aterissage des plus gracieux.

La mode aux moteurs a grosse impulsion avec une durée de combustion courte est de plus en plus à la mode.

Dimanche le 24 Juin:

Dimanche fut beaucoup plus intéressant côté météo. Le ciel était d'un bleu limpide mais le vent était encore omniprésent. Malgré cela, la journée fut bien remplie. Le plafond d'altitude était de 6000 pieds et les gens en ont certainement profité!

14h30: 6 km/h NW

Le reste de la journée -- oscillations entre 0 et 10 km/h. Le vent à tourné et est venu de l'ouest vers 16h30.

Gros commentaire: Encore une fois, les lancements de petite puissance font la majorité. Le moteur le plus populaire les deux jours était le G69 de Cesaroni (Pro38), le G64 (aerotech) et le C11 (Estes), ensuite on passe au H153 de Cesaroni et le E9 d'Estes.

Plus gros lancements: Pierre Laurendeau a finalement réussi à lancer son IRIS -- un vol spectaculaire et la fusée se posa sécuritairement sur le terrain. Pierre ne m'as pas encore dit l'altitude atteint mais mon pifomètre me dit environ 3000 pieds ce qui est très raisonnable. Sylvain Gagnon suivait de près avec son "Bruiser EXP". Malheureusement la section propulsive s'est retrouvé dans la forêt -- une récompense pour sa trouvaille à été déclaré.

Lancement le plus inusité: La pyramide "Scimitar" de Richard Irwin qui à fait un lancement spectaculaire et un aterrissage étourdissant! La fusée est un "upscale" d'un design de Art Applewhite ici:

Conclusion:

Un beau lancement réussi -- merci à Dominique Martel pour son effort titanesque. En espérant qu'il pourra en profiter à Lanoraie pour lancer un peux. Je lui réserve un moteur "J" pour sa fusée "Ti-Cul!" :o)

Rocket-Fest 2007
... is over -- it was a memorable weekend with lots of flyers, many coming from Ontario.

Before talking about the launch, I would like to thank all those who have made Rocket-Fest possible:

Dominique Martel who has taken on all the roles [RSO/RI/LCO],
Pierre Laurendeau who took care of the logistics,
Jean Désilets and Daniele who took care of traffic control,
Jacques Breton who was Rocket Inspector most of the weekend,
Martin Garand the master "Pad Manager",
Frantz Robinson who helped with the setup and takedown of the site and has done an RI shift,
Bob Pouliot who was also pad manager for multiple shifts and the official motor pusher,

Jean-Simon Bourgault who made a quick appearance with Alexis, his tiny assistant,
and Lyne, Sylvain Gagnon's wife who did pad Manager late Sunday.

Saturday June 23rd:

Saturday was a gray day with winds varying anywhere from 5 to 25 km/h continuously. The weather was cloudy and chilly. People were a bit reticent to fly but eventually they unwound and started to fly. I broke the ice first by flying my new EZI-65 on an H153. The winds died down as the day went on and flights kept up at a brisk pace till the end of the day. The field was closed at 19h06. Due to the cloud cover, flights were restricted to 2500 feet.

Factoid: We had an important Ontarian Contingent with at least 7 flyers and supporters who came to visit. We had a total of 17 flyers making this Rocket Fest the most important one in the past five years.

Editorial comment: Some people have said that we focus too much on HPR flights. From the log, it seems that the majority of our flights are low power. I wonder what that says about us.

Biggest flight: K530 for Jean-François Brousseau half-scale Patriot.

Most prolific flyer: Sylvain Gagnon avec 6 flights, he hadn't had his perchlorate fix in a long time. He told me that he was coming back to rocketry more regularly. Yay!

Most unusual flight: Roland Zacher's Glider -- great launch with very gracefull landing.

High impulse / short burntime motors seem to be in vogue these days ...

Sunday June 24th:

Sunday was much more interesting weather wise. The sky was a limpid blue but the winds were still present. Despite that, the day was filled very well. The flight ceiling was 6000 feet and people certainly have taken advantage of it!

11h20: 18 km/h NW
14h30: 6 km/h NW

Mid-afternoon till evening -- oscillations between 0 et 10 km/h. Became westerly around 16h30.

Editorial comment: Low power flights are still the majority. Most popular motor is the G69 CTI (Pro38), the G64 (aerotech) and the C11 (Estes), after that we move on to the H153 CTI (Pro38) and the Estes E9.

Biggest flight: Pierre Laurendeau finally got his full-scale IRIS off the ground with a spectacular flight that ended in a picture-perfect landing with no damage to the rocket at all. Pierre hasn't told me his max altitute yet but the rocket probably got to about 3000 feet. Sylvain Gagnon followed closely with his "Bruiser EXP". Unfortunately the motor section fell under chute in the forest. A reward was put out for the recovery of the motor section (and the expensive motor casing within).

Most unusual flight: Richard Irwin's "Scimitar" [flying pyramid] did a spectacular flight with a dizzying landing (helicopter recovery). The rocket is an upscale of an Art Applewhite designed listed here:

Conclusion:

A very nice successfull launch. Thanks to Dominique Martel for his titanic efforts. We're hoping he will be able to have fun at Lanoraie where he should have time to fly a little bit. I'm reserving a "J" motor for his LOC Warlock nicknamed "Ti-Cul!" (small butt).
