Mini-Fusée-Fête 2006
Mini-Rocket-Fest 2006

-- Yves Lacombe au nom du Comité Organisteur.

=======

Mini-Rocket-Fest was a great success due to our fearless flyers. We had two days and approximately a dozen flyers, with a magnificient flying weekend, our suburns proving this beyond any doubt. With cool temperatures (less than 20C), we were not annoyed by insects at all which was great.

Big thanks go to Jacques Breton who volunteered both days as Rocket Inspector and won the volunteer's prize of a Pro38 casing from Césaroni.

The winner of the spot-landing contest is Frank Molnar who'se "Commanche-3", launched on an A83, fell 70 feet from the flag. Second place goes to Jacques Breton with his "Screaming Mimi" which fell 86 feet from the flag. Frank won a LOC Li'l Nuke! Congratulations!

Thanks to Jean-François Brousseau who fixed the far-pad wire in record time (current wasn't reaching the far pad). We owe you.

Finally, we want to thank everyone who participated at the launch. Everyone had alot of fu!

-- Yves Lacombe on behalf of the Organisation Team.

Roland's Rocket Mobile

From Richard Irwin:

RichRoc #4 is the last in a series of different configurations with the same camera. The camera is a 3 Megapixel Mercury Cyberpix S-213D. I picked it up at WalMart 3 years ago, as it was the smallest, lightest camera with the highest quality. Right now I've got a 256SD card in it, so I can get up to
16 minutes of video, as long as the batteries last! The system for this rocket is so simple, I'm embarrassed to give it away.

The camera is about 2 1/2' long by 1" wide going lengthways. The lens is at one end, so I simply mounted the camera flat, with the lens part sticking out of the rocket pointing down. That's it! Since it's sticking out and pointing down already it eliminated the need for a mirror (I didn't even use a shroud to cover the top of the camera forbetter aerodynamics).

Since I wanted a good view of both the launch and recovery, I put an eyebolt on the tip of the nosecone, and attached the chute to this with a small thin nylon cord. The cord runs down the outside of the nose cone, along the payload (camera) bay, and into the airframe with the chute attached. At ejection, the payload/nose cone part pops out, and the chute develops on top
of everything, keeping the camera pointing down. I've had different versions where the airframe and camera come down on separate chutes in an attempt to make the recovery portion more stable, but with good swivels on the chute and airframe attachments, it's about the same result.

That's it! I was hoping to put an H128 on this version on Sunday, but the winds were too high. If you want any kind of decent recovery footage, you need a good sized chute. Maybe next time!
